"Tetelestai" (τετέλεσται) means "It is finished."

In biblical times, this word carried incredible significance. It was used when a debt had been paid in full, when a servant completed a task entrusted to him, or when a sacrifice had been fully accepted.

When Jesus spoke these words from the cross, He wasn't declaring defeat—He was announcing victory.

Through His death and resurrection, the price for our sin was completely paid. Nothing can be added to His finished work. Salvation is a gift of God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
